London’s Tower Bridge: its iconic landmark

I like this picture the best because it shows one of my favourite places in London — Tower Bridge! Many people mix it up with London Bridge, but Tower Bridge is actually the famous one. It has two huge towers with walkways at the top, and it’s one of London’s most amazing landmarks. What makes it extra special is the fact that it was built in Victorian times.

Tower Bridge is a bascule bridge, which opens in two halves to let big boats pass underneath. This makes it not only beautiful to look at, but also very useful. It took eight years to build (from 1886 to 1894). Back then, London was getting really busy, with too many people and boats, so they needed a smart solution. Tower Bridge was made to fix this problem while still fitting in with the old Tower of London nearby. Its design matched the medieval style, so it looks both historic and clever.

I love going near Tower Bridge because the views of London are amazing! You can even take a boat cruise from Tower Bridge down the River Thames. On the way, you see lots of famous places like Big Ben. I had the opportunity to take one of these cruises, and in the photo below, which is one of my favourite memories, I’m on that tour, enjoying the spectacular view from the water.

In front of Tower Bridge, you can also see HMS Belfast, an old Navy warship that is now a museum. It’s cool to think this ship once fought in big sea battles, and now it just rests quietly near one of London’s most beautiful bridges.

Tower Bridge crosses the River Thames, which is one of the most famous rivers in the world. The river has been important to London’s story for hundreds of years. When I stand on Tower Bridge, I imagine how different the river might have looked 200 years ago.

Tower Bridge is really special to me. Every time I see it, I feel excited and happy. Its amazing design, history, and location appeal to my senses and make it one of the best places I’ve ever visited. Whether from the water, the riverbank, or standing right on it, Tower Bridge never stops being awesome. If you ever go to London, make sure to go there—it’s one of my favourite spots in the whole city—and maybe it will become yours too!
